The scene opens up to Methos sleeping on a cot in an empty Cairo jail cell. Dr. Mina Abadi and a prison guard are standing on the other side of the bars.
Guard: “Here is the man who destroyed the artifact.”
Mina: “Are you Adam Pierson?”
Methos’ eyes slowly open and he responds in a calm, low voice - almost seductively.
Methos: “Dr. Mina Abadi.”
Mina: “I’m here to find out how you know about the Scarab of Swords.”
Methos comes up to stand by the bars only a few inches away from the doctor.
Methos: “Have you opened the sarcophagus?”
Mina: “No, not yet. But how do you know about it? Who are you? I’m intrigued, Mr. Pierson.”
Methos: “If you take me to him, I will make you the world’s most famous Egyptologist.”
Mina: “Take you to who?”
Methos: “The Pharaoh Djer.”
The scene changes to a flashback of ancient Egypt. We see the royal bedchambers of the Pharaoh Djer and hear Methos’ monologue:
“Day and night I lived with rage, but never showed it. It wouldn’t have been revenge to kill him and give him exactly what he wanted from me, so I dreamt up a far better punishment, and struck when the time was right.”
The camera zooms back and we see Methos, with his hair pulled back in a ponytail, as he watches the Pharaoh sleeping from a window. He puts a long reed to his lips and blows. A dart flies across the room and strikes the sleeping Djer in the neck.
Next we see Methos in a ceremonial chamber standing with his arms crossed over the prone and partly mummified body of the Pharaoh Djer. Djer moans as he slowly comes to.
Methos: “This is for my wife, who was murdered at your command!”
Methos continues to apply strips of white cloth across the Pharaoh’s body and face, until he is almost completely covered.
Djer: “No . . . you can’t . . .”
We again hear Methos’ monologue:
“It was to be an eternity of suffering for him, and the beginning of glory for me.”
The scene transitions from a shot of Methos standing with his arms crossed over the mummified body to Methos dressed in Pharaoh’s robes, arms crossed, and holding a rod and scepter in each hand. We see a pyramid apparently under construction behind his right shoulder in the distance.
“The next morning, I became the new Pharaoh of Egypt.”
The flashback ends on that image and transitions to the present day, with Methos standing in the desert with a huge and completed pyramid looming behind his right shoulder. Mina is nearby and a soldier questions them.
Soldier: “This area is restricted, you cannot be here.”
Mina: “I’m Dr. Abadi with the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. I received a permit this morning . . . and this man is with me.”
