Notes
If you use any of the information on these pages on your own website, please do not use ALL the information and give me credit and a link back to this page. I don't take credit for the information, but I do for the time and effort I spent on it. That's all I ask in addition to dropping me a note about where you linked me from. Thanks!
This site is NOT inclusive of all names and/or surnames. If it's missing, I have just not come across it. I am always appreciative of additional names I am missing or information on those I do have. I also do not guarantee that all information is absolutely correct.
The purpose of these pages is to have a place to go for help naming a child, pet, fictional character, car, etc. You want just the right name to fit the person's personality and traits. On these page and the ones linked, you will find Gaelic names of the British Isles and Brittany - both older and modern forms. I will have the pronunciations, variations, origins, anglicizations, and meanings listed if given.
I cannot stress this enough: my knowledge of origins and meanings of the names on any of these pages is limited to what you see. I don't have the time to answer all the individual e-mails, and in most cases, I would probably refer you to the links page or one of those links therein. I also don't speak Gaelic outside a few words and phrases - and I mean a few. Please, please check out the links page or make a post on the Names Forum before e-mailing me. I do still try to get to the Forum to respond to posts. Thanks.
For clarification, Celtic is the culture; Gaelic is the language, of which there are various branches. The name of the site has not changed because it has become listed at various places. I realize Celtic and Gaelic are NOT the same thing. I simply haven't had time to change the name or change it everywhere it is listed. Since the various Gaelic languages [can] fall under the Celtic culture, that is the reason for the Celtic Names of the British Isles title.
This is not a genealogy site, simply an information source, you can check the links pages for genealogy resources.
This site should not be relied upon for information regarding SCA personas. I do not know where to find documentation of name usage you need.
Some names may be on more than one page with more or less information. I have added a search engine for the site, you should see the box a little further down the page. Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for!
Finally, A BIG thank you to those who have supplied information or additional information on names!
